Bulgaria is one of the oldest European countries with it's history and traditions dating back to 5000BC. Modern Bulgaria is situated in South Eastern Europe, on the Balkan Peninsula, a busy crossroad of ancient cultures. Bulgaria is also known for its splendid nature and rich cultural heritage. The country ranks third in Europe only after Greece and Italy for the number of its valuable archaeological monuments. This Eastern European country only came in from the communist cold in 1990. It might have seen big changes in that time, but its traditions and customs still thrive. More importantly, it offers great value for money. Bulgaria is situated in the underbelly of Europe. It borders Romania to the north, Serbia and Macedonia to the west, and Greece and Turkey to the south. Bulgaria features a diverse landscape ranging from the snow-capped peaks in Rila and Pirin, to the typically Mediterranean valleys in the south.

Dining out is a real pleasure and the salad dishes here are amazing ! Dont be caught out like we did when we asked for a dish and the waiter shook his head side to side - this actually means YES!! You can end up ordering too much thinking they didnt have what we were ordering. Bulgarians are a very quiet unassuming people but are very very friendly. Many a time we have been sat in our garden and a local has bought us fresh milk, eggs or fruit and veg as a gift. The villagers like to sit & chat and make time for one another and are always milling about the village. We have both the joys of a quiet village and bustling town.
